Special Anti-slip Properties And Uses of TPE/TPR Materials

TPE/TPR is a soft rubber material. Related materials with similar performance to TPE/TPR include EVA/POE, PVC, silicone, (vulcanized) rubber, TPU/TPV, etc. Let's briefly talk about the special anti-slip properties and uses of TPE/TPR materials.

1. EVA/POE belongs to the category of polyolefin elastomer TPO. Although this type of elastomer has a soft touch, the molecular monomer unit is a single direct olefin polymerization structure and does not contain a benzene ring. The material lacks anti-slip performance and has poor anti-slip and wear resistance. It is used in limited applications for injection molding of soft rubber products, generally some craft accessories, small toy products, and toughening modification.

2. PVC soft rubber. A hydrogen atom in polyethylene is replaced by chlorine, and polyethylene is transformed into polyvinyl chloride PVC. Although PVC has good elasticity, it lacks rubber texture and has average anti-slip performance. In addition, the environmental performance of PVC also affects its application space.

3. Silicone. The molecular chain structure of silicone only gives it excellent resilience, aging resistance, and excellent environmental protection properties. The silicone shell has an excellent soft touch, but it is not good at anti-slip performance.

4. (Vulcanized) rubber. This material has excellent wear resistance and anti-slip properties. The vulcanized rubber system has excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance and physical and mechanical properties, which makes its application focus on industry. Automobile tires and industrial conveyor belts are one of its most important applications.

5. TPU/TPV. These are two common types of thermoplastic elastomers. Both materials have certain rubber anti-slip properties. However, these two materials are poor in soft touch.

6. TPE/TPR materials. This refers to SEBS, SBS polystyrene elastomer alloys. This type of material has a rigid molecular structure of styrene and a flexible butadiene (or butene-ethylene) molecular chain structure, which makes TPE/TPR have certain strength and excellent soft touch. The strength, wear resistance and anti-skid performance of TPE/TPR are not as good as those of vulcanized rubber, so its application areas are some daily products, tools and hardware, and electronic products. The following are some product application cases that use the anti-skid performance of TPE and TPR:

(1) Handle handles. Tool hardware, bicycle and motorcycle handles, luggage handles, knife and kitchen utensil handles

(2) Anti-skid mats. Such as anti-skid foot mats for cars, anti-skid mats for car interiors, anti-skid mats for mobile phones (the surface of the material has strong stickiness), anti-skid mats for bathrooms and toilets, coasters for water cups (composite injection molding or single-material molding), anti-skid bowl mats, etc.

(3) Sole. TPR sole has excellent anti-slip performance and has much less odor than rubber, making it softer and more comfortable to wear.

(4) Various (industrial, baby stroller) casters. In the caster industry, both TPE/TPR and TPU are used. However, TPR has a softer anti-slip property and can be used to produce silent casters for the medical industry. Casters made of TPU have a relatively loud friction sound.
