Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)

Polyethylene terephthalate is a colorless, transparent substance with a certain gloss (amorphous), or an opaque milky white substance (crystalline). It is difficult to ignite and burn, but once it burns, it can continue to burn even if the flame is away. When burning, it will melt and burst into fragments. The flame is yellow, the edge is blue, there are small drops falling, black smoke, and a slightly sweet and pungent smell. The performance of pure PET is very poor, especially the impact strength and heat resistance are particularly poor, but after being reinforced with glass fiber, various properties are greatly improved.

Polyethylene (PE)

Physical properties: Polyethylene is non-toxic, odorless, and milky white. It has a density of 0.91-0.96g/cm3 and is a crystalline plastic. Polyethylene has a certain mechanical strength, but its mechanical strength is lower than that of other plastics and its surface hardness is poor.

Polyethylene has excellent insulation properties. At room temperature, polyethylene is insoluble in any known solvent and is resistant to dilute sulfuric acid, dilute nitric acid, and other acids of any concentration, as well as alkali and salt solutions of various concentrations. Polyethylene has a high degree of water resistance and its properties can remain unchanged after long-term contact with water. Polyethylene has poor water vapor permeability, but good permeability to oxygen, carbon dioxide, and many organic vapors.

Usage temperature-weather resistance: Polyethylene will age and become brittle under the action of heat, light, and oxygen. Generally, the operating temperature of high-pressure polyethylene is about 800C, and that of low-pressure polyethylene is about 1000C. Polyethylene is cold-resistant and still has good mechanical properties at -600C and a certain degree of softness at -700C.
