Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) is a kind of general type of thermoplastic engineering plastics, and its specific properties are as follows:
General performance
ABS engineering plastic is opaque ivory granular material, its products can be made into colorful, and have high gloss. The relative density of ABS is about 1.05, and the water absorption is low. The combination of ABS with other materials is good, and it is easy to be printed on the surface. ABS is a flammable polymer with a yellow flame, black smoke and a special cinnamon smell.
Mechanical property
ABS has excellent mechanical properties, excellent impact strength, and can be used at very low temperature. ABS has excellent wear resistance, good dimensional stability and oil resistance. The creep resistance of ABS is higher than that of PSF and PC, but smaller than that of PA and POM. The flexural strength and compression strength of ABS are worse than those of plastics. The mechanical properties of ABS are greatly affected by temperature.
Thermal performance
The hot deformation temperature of ABS is 93 ~ 118 ℃, and the product can be increased by about 10 ℃ after annealing. ABS can still show some toughness at -40 ℃ and can be used in the range of -40 ~ 100 ℃.
Electrical property
ABS has good electrical insulation and is almost unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency. It can be used in most environments.
Environmental performance
ABS is not affected by water, inorganic salt, alkali and many kinds of acids, but it can be dissolved in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons, and will cause stress cracking when eroded by glacial acetic acid, vegetable oil, etc. The weatherability of ABS is poor, and it is easy to degrade under the action of ultraviolet light. After half a year outside, the impact strength is reduced by half.
Application of ABS Resin
The biggest applications of ABS resin are cars, electronics and building materials. Automotive applications include car dashboards, body panels, interior panels, steering wheels, sound isolators, door locks, bumpers, ventilators, and many other parts. It is also widely used in refrigerators, televisions, washing machines, air conditioners, computers, photocopiers and other electronic appliances. Building materials applications include ABS pipe, ABS sanitary ware, ABS decorative panel. In addition, ABS is also widely used in packaging, furniture, sporting goods and entertainment, industrial machinery and instruments.
Important indicators for the pursuit of automotive interior include beauty, low smell, mechanical properties, heat-resistant, weathering, and so on. Materials should have the following conditions: good fluidity; excellent impact resistance; easy processing and molding; easy coloring, spraying; low smell; good corrosion resistance; matte effect.
ABS is also used in 3D printing.
