How To Choose Among 7 Pelletizing Methods?

01 Process performance of pelletizing device

02 When ordering, is it better to choose cold cuts or hot cuts?

○ When placing orders for production lines, the (technical) leaders of enterprises should have a clear idea of what kind of pelletizing to choose for the main products. However, at present, they often do not have enough consultation or are unable to reach a consensus. The root cause is the lack of data in colleges and universities, research institutes or pelletizing factories.

○ The author found through statistics that more than 20 years ago, water-cooled strand pelletizing lines were mostly used for domestic resin pelletizing, while now various die surface hot pelletizing lines are mostly used, especially underwater hot cutting domestic lines.

03 There are seven types of pelletizing lines commonly seen on the market:

○ Cold cut pieces

1) Horizontal strand water cooling line - consists of strand cooling water tank, blow dryer, cold pelletizer, and pellet vibrating screen;

2) Horizontal strand air cooling line - consists of 8~25m long strand air cooling belt, cold pelletizer and vibrating screen;

3) Inclined strand water cooling line - commonly known as "cast strip pelletizer". Water is also sprayed above the inclined water tray to cool the strands. Cold pelletizer water immersion.

○ Die surface hot cutting

4) There are three types of concentric hot cutting:

Air-cooled (no water involved);

Water ring type (there is a rotating water layer in the pelletizing hood to quickly cool and take away the hot melt pellets scraped off by the cutter);

Underwater type (warm water flows through the closed pelletizing hood).

5) Eccentric water mist hot cutting has two major characteristics:

The large die plate is covered with small die holes;

Two large eccentrically driven cutters sweep across the die surface, cutting out numerous fine pellets accompanied by fine water mist.

These seven pelletizing lines each have their own advantages and disadvantages, as well as a suitable production capacity range.
